You can opt-in or opt-out of the image ads, and you can change it by page if you wish with the AdSense javascript.

markus007,

Did you see info regarding Google Image Ads? I saw nothing new on this page.
[google.com...]

It's still updated til March 17 2004.

Also, is Google entering ads banner market now?

The reason I get higher click-thru is simply because they aren't graphics... people on my site simply hate graphical banner.

The new page I see says "Last updated: May 11, 2004".

It also mentions another new case study [google.com...]

Jenstar,

You are in Vancouver, right? But I don't see anything here...(Richmond)

I couldn't even access this URL!
[google.com...]

Bizarre, yes, I am near Vancouver. Do you see [google.com...] with PVRBlog in the top spot?

Do you see the new reporting time frames in the drop down selection box on the reports performance page?

[google.com...] is also a new URL, for selecting whether to opt in or out of image ads, and there is also an "Ad Type" option given second in the list of options on the javascript generator page in the control panel.

Another possible reason:
[adwords.google.com...]

Google image ads are a new type of graphical AdWords ad appearing on select content sites in the Google Network. Image ads combine two powerful approaches: graphics and proven AdWords targeting technology. (emphasis mine).

If that is the reasoning, I wonder what the criteria is to be selected.

Hi Jenstar,

Nothing... Nothing and nothing...

The page is still update til March 18, 2004 on Adsense panel, and I don't see any of the things you just mentioned.

What seems to be the problem?

irock i'm in north vancouver... (telus)

Google Image Ads (Beta)

Maybe only certain publishers were selected for the beta

I asked a huge publisher in downtown vancouver to take a look and he doesn't see it either... So i'm thinking its a limited beta?

But that's no reason to stop me from using the new reporting tool, right?

Do you see the new reporting time frames in the drop down selection box on the reports performance page?

Hey markus007,

Are you with Telus or Shaw broadband?

Could be a rolling update over the next couple of hours. I also haven't seen an email from Google yet, which usually accompanies changes.

So does this mean under the TOS, that since you cannot have ads that are similiar to adsense format that others banners are soon to be disallowed?

well technically, we are now allowed to display 2 adsense banners per page.. You force one to display text ads, you force another to display banner ads.

[google.com...]

One more URL to try ;)

Visi, I think it is still restricted to contextual based ads only, not all image ads.

I will try some of them out and see what I find.

There is also the possibility that AdSense has given the beta testing to publishers in markets where there is image ad inventory available. It will be interesting to see if it really is limited to some publishers but not others.

you force another to display banner ads.

There is no option for image ads only, at least not at this time. It is all text ads or a combination of text & image ads in rotation.

The image ads and reporting features will be available to all publishers - the update takes some time to roll out to everyone though, so some will be able to see it now, while others may see it in an hour or so.

Check the site in a little while - I'm looking forward to hearing everybody's feedback :)

ASA.

AdSenseAdvisor,

Just curious, who is going to make all the flashy graphics banner?

Also, the banner took the entire 300x250. Will this advertiser have to pay more to get this click?

I set it up on a few non-critical sites to see how it works. So far it's still all text ads.

Should be interesting to see how it works. I don't see myself putting it sitewide on my main sites unless there is a LOT more money in it than with the text ads.

Allow us to have a text link only banner on a page, and as well as a banner ad...

Thats my feed back :)

Will image ads appear if the code already in place uses the 336x280 large rectangle? Or will I have to change it back to the 300x250 medium rectangle?

Will we be able to see separate stats for these image ads?

It appears you can only run image ads when you are using the following ad sizes:
leaderboard (728x90)
banner (468x60)
skyscraper (120x600)
medium rectangle (300x250)

Yes, I too would like to see separate stats for image vs text ads as well.

Here's what I want to know as a publisher.

An image ad will replace 4 text ads in a 120x600 tower or300x250 box. Thus reducing my chances at getting a click thru.

Will they pay accordingly more?

Thats interesting... It the adsense box only displays ONE big banner... do you earn more per click?
