I think Google has a way to go in refining their targeting. Now I am getting Needles and Syringes on a page with an article that talks about needles used in sewing.

I do hope Google is noting some of the problems we message about here. I'd like to see AdSense make it as it still seems to be the best for a content site. No one else seems to be able to deliver targeted ads on specific topics like Google does. But their targeting still needs work.

For now I just take the ad off of a page like this but I haven't found really good alternative ads.

Apparently one of the problems with mis-targeting and reporting it to Google is that they have a hard time replicating the situation.

If they review your page, which they will do sometimes, they don't neccessarily get the same ads you see for a variety of reasons.

So the best thing to do is to make a screen capture of the page showing the mis-targeted ad. Then send the screen image to them.

That's what they asked me to do after several emails back and forth.

Of course the targeting mysteriously got much better at that point and I couldn't find the mis-targeted ads myself, so I haven't had the opportunity to send any screen captures off to them.
