Timing of stats

How current are they?

I just started serving ads on Sunday, so have no track record to go on. Yesterday morning I changed the ad on a busy section from bottom to top of page. No change in clicks. Early today, clicks went up.

Is this still part of the slowdown, or is this normal?

Stats from Sunday evening through late morning Monday (PST) were delayed, so if you were watching clicks during that time frame, it would have appeared you had no impressions or clicks. Google did update them later in the day to reflect them accurately.

Also, it may take AdSense a while to crawl all your pages to begin showing content targeted ads. If you are displaying PSA (charity) ads, they don't count for clicks or impressions.

If your pages are dynamic or have session IDs, the AdSense bot could have trouble spidering them to get the most relevant ads - this will also result in PSA ads.

Give AdSense at least a week to see how it goes and you can watch for a pattern. Some will have better CTR on certain days of the week, while for others it could be the worst day of the week for CTR. Much will depend on the site, and even how much the clicks are worth that your visitors click.

I have also noticed slowing in reporting clicks and impressions this afternoon/evening, which is another reason why you should give it at least a week, if not more. Two or three days isn't a long enough time frame to give you any accurate idea, especially when AdSense is still pretty new itself.

Almost all my ads are targeted, at least targeted to the website. Some are directly targeted (for example the page of nearby hotels has hotel and real estate ads).

The first half hour or so I had the charity ads, and have noticed them once or twice since, but the targetting has been pretty good so far.

Numbers definitely slowed down this afternoon/evening.

I'm getting ready to put some skyscrapers in (using includes and need to doublecheck I don't have two boxes anywhere) so we'll see how long that takes to show up in the clicks.

Didn't realize the charity ads didn't count as impressions though, thanks!

I think you're probably seeing the slowdown in effect. Things just haven't been the same since the weekend for me. Sometimes, it seems as if the stats are up-to-the-minute. Other times, they don't change for hours.

And the same goes for the ad targeting. Sometimes, it's right on. Other times, it takes anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days to catch up.

From watching my AdSense stats, I get the feeling that, at times, the impressions are more up-to-date than the clickthrus.

Beth,

I get the same feeling at times, but most of the time, I think they are in line with each other.
