The intended, and no doubt best, use is to figure out what pages are making money and which aren't. I did this (and was in for a surprise). But with some creative scripting there's no reason you couldn't have a given page serve different channel codes, tracking track time of day, entry page, ip location, membership status, browser version, search term they entered on—anything knowable—so long as it can be split into 20 or fewer channels.
So, two questions: (1) Would Google disapprove? (2) If no, what do you think is worth tracking?
Extension: With some elegant programming, you could figure out how more than 20 "virtual channels" mapped to revenue, whether the channels represented URLs or not.
