Hi, was just wondering what text you guys display right above your adsense...

I've seen sites that display "Sponsors" or "Sponsored by..." and some even display the blatant "Advertisements" right above there adsense. Some sites also display no text and just have the ads.

I ask cause I'm trying to figure out what text I should display above my ads. :)

Maybe honesty is the best policy, but I just can't imagine site's that have "Advertisements" or "Ad's" displayed above there adsense performing to well.

We are doing quite well with having Related, Ad Matches, Great Resources... just to name a few :)

Hope this helps.

Was just reading about this in another thread and Google was quite clear in that it does not want anything that entices users to click.

Personally I would not add anything, they are obviously ads so why point out the obvious.

I would personally prefer to add nothing. One of the site has almost the same design color and the skyscraper looks a part of the site ;)

Thats good for CTR

Hi Robbie, thanks for the ideas. :)

Currently I can't decide and it's a tie between displaying:

"Related"

"Sponsors"

or

"Sponsored by..."

"Related" was one I hadn't thought of, thanks. :)

Gonna wait to see if there's a few more posts of what people display and if they're doing good before I make a decision on what to display. Then I will have to implement it into quite a few pages. :)

I see your guys's points about adding nothing, but the way my site is designed, and where the ad's fit, it needs a "headline" if you will describing what's below...

I think what Google is talking about is putting:

Click These Links!
Help us by Clicking Below!
Free Gift if you Click the Ads
Support us by Clicking these Links
If you don't click the Ads we will go out of business

I think some site designs will require you putting something before the ads. Something like related, ad matches, advertisements, ads, resources etc. I can't see how this would be against the TOS. Certainly not enticing uses to click in my mind.

I think there would be a lot of bigger sites in trouble.

If anyone has proof that this will get you kicked off let me know. I would hate to be doing something that will get me banned. I guess I could always write them an email :)

"Sponsors"

or

"Sponsored by..."

hmmmm

That is one that we had a hard time with...

Sponsored? Is the page really sponsored by these advertisers. Do they even know that they are on your page?

I think sponsor applies being directly related to them. But what do I know. I think you should use what you feel comfortable with. We went with something that we feel is being honest and not going to extra effort to entice users to click. They will see it and if they want they will click it :)

If you do hear anything from Google please do let me know.

Exactly the case with my site.

That brings up an interesting idea... I wonder what would happen if you created a site based entirely around the design/color of the google adsense skyscraper ad! hehe. :P
With the exact same blue color and layout and what not. Making it really blend in with the site can't be against TOS, could it? and I think if your intentions of this particular site is to make money, it might be a good idea. :)

That was the case with one of our sites we use AdSense on. It was 100% the same color and blended in with the site. At first I thought Google had something to do with it but looking around I saw that we were just lucky :)

We needed the same for our site.

Well hmm, Google calls there ad's "Sponsored Links" and the adwords user has the option to let there ad's show on other sites other than Google or not. So I think it would be OK to display "Sponsors" or "Sponsored by..." above your ads.

Agree that it would be okay.

One last point. In all cases Google displays the URL at the bottom of the ad so almost all uses should know that they are leaving the site.

This is only true for skyscrapers. The banners do not show the URL in text. It does say "Ads by Google" on the bottom of the banners though.

Hi, was just wondering what text you guys display right above your adsense...

Nothing, because the AdSense banner or skyscraper is clearly labeled "Ads by Google."

After what everyone else has said, I feel a little sheepish in saying that I just say "Google Ads" above the horizontal banners. It just looks right to me.

I don't put anything above the skyscrapers because "Ads by Google" is already at the top.

I'm displaying the ads vertically.

For the box header, I have "From Google" and then underneath in normal-size text, right before the actual ads, I have "Learn about this" which leads to a page on my site in which I talk about the whys and hows behind the advertising shown.

The header increases trust (people like and know Google), and the info link allows curious folks to learn more.

I use " These Google ads appear on a trial basis, and are not endorsed by us.", but then there are quite a number of dodgy SEO services appearing, and we are only using them on a trial basis.

I have a link that says "Please report inappropriate ads." :-)

Since they were up and down a lot at first, it used to say "You may see some Google Ads below (or you may not). It's something new I'm trying out. Please report anything inappropriate," but I took that part out after it seemed to stabilize.

Correction: I asked google about the "Please report inappropriate ads" link, and they said that was not cool, and could incite people to click on the ads.

So now, I have no text. :-)

AdSense is one of the nicer features that the web has yet to offer us content providers recently.

I've made a point not to do anything that would add or subtract from the ads.

I just let them run (and cash the checks.)

I prefer to not add any text above the ads. As an AdWords user, I know that the best ads sell themselves. The users simply see the text, become interested, and click. They don't need any help. All they need is a good ad.

I have a feeling that most other AdWords advertisers know this as well and write their ads accordingly. I see evidence of this every time I look at one of my sites or perform a search on Google.

No text is needed. In fact, I think that spelling out "Ads" or "Advertisements" would deter the clicking. And that's certainly not something I want to do.
