I'm sure this has been answered before, so apologies if it has.

How do I recognise a visit by mediabot. Presume its in logfiles? If using stats package what would file look like?

Thanks.

It looks like this:

mediapartners-Google/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)

in the user agents section of your stats package.

I always see the HTTP_USER_AGENT for their bot begin with a capital M.

Mediapartners-Google/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)

Food for thought - I know many people here at WebmasterWorld refer to this bot as "mediabot", but it's actually the "Mediapartners" bot and if people get in the habit of referring to it that way there might be less confusion.

It is just a habit, especially when there are longer discussions discussing the mediabot, it is definitely much easier to say mediabot rather than mediapartners bot repeatedly ;)

Jenstar, I understand why you and others shorten it (I think we've even actually been down this road once before here in this forum). It's just my opinion that it's not worth saving perhaps two seconds of typing when it can causes confusion given that people will search their logs and reports for the name of the bot. Anyone who searches their logs for mediabot or the google.com site won't find anything, but anyone who looks for mediapartners will. I'm all for acronyms, but not incorrect names for terminology, but to each their own.
