I get tons of hits from bots like crawler9.googlebot.com, but is this for the search engine or Adsense? How do you tell the difference?

Don't u get the bot name?

Mediapartners-Google = AdSense
Googlebot = Google

If not: someone else?

yup, as the above poster said, the mediapartners is the adsense bot. There is also an image crawling bot from Google.

He's talking about the IP address (domain name) of the visitor, nor the User Agent.

I found crawler11.googlebot.com last week from my websites' access logs. It's Google's web-crawling robot. We can only identify the AdSense bot from User Agent as "Mediapartners-Google/2.1".

P.S. I also found following User Agents:
Googlebot-Image/1.0+(+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)
Mediapartners-Google/2.1+(+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)
Googlebot/2.1+(+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)

Googlebot/Test+(+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)

Humm..the latter is a fresh one, methinks.
