I just noticed that when there are no ads to display, adsense is now compressed so that it doesn't take up any wasted space. This is a great change!

Interesting, I haven't seen that. Instead they seem to be using the border color to fill in the background of unused sections when there aren't enough ads served to fill the space. I'd like to see it compressed instead. For example if only two ad sections of a 4 skyscraper ad are filled I would like to see the unused section compressed to just use the 2 ad space.
I wonder if Google is just trying different things and seeing how advertisers and AdSense carriers react in letters to Google and such
