Google Adsense Sales Call

I run a successful Adwords campaign in the UK, and today got a sales call from someone from Google trying to sell me Adsense. Two things concerned me about it:

1 I didn't think Google made sales calls, and

2 The lady who phoned me seemed to have no idea about the content of my site, that I already worked with Google, and other basic search stuff. Also, she did not grasp the fact that my website is not really suitable to carry advertising.

She sent me an email which seemed genuine enough (the NY address), but I am very surprised that these are the sort people who Google hire, especially those trying to get new business.

So, has anyone else had experience of this, and if so, what were your thoughts?

If I had to guess, this might have been a company working under contract with Google.

This is the first time I hear from it, but it is a common practice for companies to outsource this type of work to companies in telemarketing.

I don't think cold-calling like this would be a high paying career. Unless you worked on commission, which I would doubt.

Maybe she was trying to get you to start running AdWords sites through the AdSense service?

We've gotten the sales call from google too. Also from New York. They are indeed trying to get people to sign up for adsense.

I'm not sure this is the same thing but I got an email from someone who was eager to buy ad space on my site to run AdSense ads. They gave me a URL of another site they said they were doing this for. The deal was a straight CPM rate for me. They said they were an "AdSense Reseller".

I already run AdSense on my site. This person evidently just hadn't viewed enough of my site to find the AdSense ads.

I wrote AdSense. I think they said there was no such thing as an AdSense reseller. I am pleased to say that I checked the URL the person had given me some weeks later. Evidently they lost their AdSense account. There were no AdSense ads to be seen.

Just wondering if Google actually allow AdSense Resellers, now with the channels reporting installed, you could give someone your code and give them 60% of what they earn. Not nice for this person, and they would have to be pretty stupid to not realise what was going on, but is it allowed?

I looked for my return email from AdSense regarding my contact from the "reseller". I couldn't find it.

My impression was they frowned on this "reseller" idea. Confirmation of this would be that I was under the impression that the person seemed to have lost their AdSense account.
