Hi,

From what I remember, AdSense does NOT allow you to place more than 1 ad per page.

It seems that almost any site I usually visit has multiple ads on a page.

Sometimes there are 2 ad sections on the website that rotate, so maybe every 3 page view or so has 2 google adsense ads while other sites blatantly have 2 ads on each page (sky scraper and 468x60 text ad).

I am losing $ from not doing this as I think its wrong, what's the real deal?

Placing more than one ad box on the page is definitely against the rules.

Right, Europe.

Besides, how many ads is one visitor going to click? I would rather have 1 or 2 ads that really fit my audience than a dozen that don't along with the 1 or 2 that fit.

the real question is should we report them or maybe give a chance to the webmaster by mailing him? Its not our job to do the followup an d everything but I dont want the guy to loose adsense, he probably isnt aware of the rules.

All the same raises my hackles since a few of my competitors do it and obviously towards the month end it contributes to the PSA's.

Yeah it probably does pay better, I'd guess 25 - 50% better in a month.

Its a shame Google can't figure it out somehow. If a low traffic site is hitting the ad server for ads very fast (2 per second or something) they should flag the site and verify that there is only 1 ad per page.

High traffic sites can't use this technique, but it would work for many sites I'd say.

1. Two sets of ads: impressions x 2.
2. Visitors can click only 1 ad.
Result: CTR will drop significantly.

... and it's not allowed.

AffiliateDreamer, it's against the AdSense TOS. I've seen quite a few publishers do it. Some are premium service partners and presumably have permission to do so, some are regular AdSense publishers. When I come across regular AdSense publishers doing so and I'm in the mood I contact them to advise them that they're in violation of the TOS and mention that they could be removed from the AdSense program by Google if they don't comply with the TOS.

That's the charitable thing to do and it probably is what I'd do.

However, if he's crooked he should really be out. If he can't be bothered to read the TOS then hmmm...surely, apathy/stupidity are even more serious failings?

A small part of me says that we should really drop any concerns for his earnings and report him straight to Google for undermining/putting at risk a program that is important and lucrative to us.

Yes, but why should the offenders worry about their clickthrough rates when they've got extra money in their pockets at the end of the day?

There is the current discussion on this as it relates to the new changes, and it doesn't sound as though it is permitted.

See AdsenseAdvisor's post in this thread. It's still not allowed.

Well according to what I read, it says I can.

What a confusing *new* set of TOC!

The template for pages on one of my sites includes the banner and skyscraper. If I have enough content to stretch the page I use the skyscraper and remove the banner. Anyway I uploaded a bunch of pages with both a while back and my ctr was nearly double. It was only for a couple days so it wasn't really statistically significant, but promising.

I think "Ad unit" is going to be some new feature ... some kind of container for ads which prevents two or more ads on the same page displaying the same links ... just guessing
