Some Questions about Adsense

I am trying to think of all the good and bad apsects of just adding Adsense to some of our pages on one site. Previously we used to do direct sales and it worked OK but because of recent events we have had to cut back a little and therefore (hopefully) will find the 'ease of use' of Adsense help us to maintain a certain level of ad revenue while not having the complications of direct sales.

However I have thought that once viewers see the ads some companies will (we expect) contact us for advertising.

Now the way I understand Adsense, is that I can stop and restart at any time. Does this mean for example if an advertiser comes to us and wants to pay X to advertise that I can simply remove the Adsense code and put in the direct advertiser in its place for as long as they pay and once finished simply re-ad the Adsense code?

Why not allow the advertiser to go direct to you, if he wants to allow his site on adsense (for extra exposure), leave the adsense, if he doesn't want to pay twice then just add him to your filter.

I was under the impression that we could not have more than one ad on one page (i.e. just Google and no other ads) or have I misunderstood this completely?

You cannot have another TEXTAD or CONTENT-TARGETTED ad. To me that means no overture and no "text ads" but regular banner ads is ok. AWA, please correct us if we're wrong.

You can have other ads on the same page. Banner Ads, Affiliate ads, etc.

What you CANT have is "text-based or content-targeted advertisement(s)" on the same page. The definition of these must be fairly subjective.

Even affiliate links from text is OK.

You cant have more than one set of Adsense ads on one page also. Choose one of the vertical or horizontal formats.

From what others have said, it seems that Google AdSense does not want additional text ads that are similar in appearance to the AdSense ads, whether they are in-house text ads that happen to look how AdSense/AdWords ads do, or ones that are part of another ad network.
