Now that I've had adsense running for a few weeks, I'm starting to notice a pattern - That being my revenue goes waaaaay down on Saturdays and Sundays.
For example, at the same time yesterday I had ten times the revenue. It'll probably get a little better as the day goes on, but every Saturday it drops very dramatically...Even though I'm still maintaining the same click through rate (about 3%).
Anyone else notice a big drop on the weekends?
Interestingly, Saturday is normally my slowest day of the week for impressions, clickthrough rate, and total revenue--but the average clickthrough payment is high, and so is the effective CPM.
I assume most travel-related sites' impressions & CTR would drop during the weekend because most travellers are on the road then.
Most traffic on travel sites doesn't happen when people are traveling--it happens when they're at home planning their trips.
BTW, in the more than seven years that I've been involved with travel "content sites," I've found that the greatest amount of traffic occurs during the work week--maybe because people fight depression in their office cubicles by fantasizing vacations. :-)
Afraid you are back to statistics and valid sample sizes, Try looking at your figures in blocks of about 100 clicks, that is add however many days necessary to get 100 clicks...
...then compare that sum of money with what you earned with the 100 clicks before that. You should find the figures similar
There are too many variables to compare blocks of 25 clicks, to make comparisons statistically valid

Madmatt69>My explanation to your concern is that because few people bid travel-related Adwords during weekend, the real CPC would be automatically adjusted lower by Google. So, I think it would be understandable.
I think Jenstar has a point, though. Google's AdSense programs have a T.O.S. that are fairly clear. Even responding with a fake example without clarifying it in your oringinal post is reason for caution.
As for AdSense dropping on weekends?
Hehe...
I taught a seminar on search engines recently, I asked a simple question:
"Why should you avoid sound on your website?"
Answer:
"Because most people surf the net at work and they don't want the boss to know they are surfing."
Something to think about...
Jenstar>I think Madmatt69's figures would be just an example, not the real numbers. No need for such serious!
They seemed to me as being real-life examples, and it has been mentioned in past threads that no specific figures should be mentioned, as per the TOS. We have at least two people from Google on the boards, which is something else to keep in mind.
As for being serious, I was simply bringing up a point from Google's TOS, whether people want to follow it or not is up to themselves. I don't plan on violating it myself ;)
If a company is going to pay me money, I would never tick the company off and jepoardize those payments. Google put that in their TOS for a reason.
I think Google's got more things to worry about than someone trying to make some extra beer / rent money. I could understand if people were talking about exaclty how they're making a $1000 a week or something, and selling that sort of information to other people. That's probably what they're thinking about.
Thanks again though for all your thoughts!
Is it correct only people use your site for casual/vacation trip planning, not business trips?
I'm sure that some people use it to plan business trips, but I don't have much information that's specifically geared to business travelers.
...because few people bid travel-related Adwords during weekend, the real CPC would be automatically adjusted lower by Google. So, I think it would be understandable.
Exactly. If the bid drops from $1.00 to 50 cents because of reduced demand, the publisher's share will drop, too.
AdWords bids are a great example of the free market at work. Who knows--maybe we'll see commodities brokers selling AdWords futures contracts someday. :-)
But I think the ads displayed on my site have a large range of revenue rates (made up example, ie from .25 to 2.00) so that could explain it.
Further to this, my week day revenue can be 20% of average some days. I really varies by a stupid amount! :)

I always thought that G give you a % of the AD rate. What that % is who knows, My guess is in the these early days G will play with % figures until they believe they have it right for everyone.
If it is a percentage then would it not also be linked to what the advertises are paying at that time.
