AdSense for frames-based content

Just a heads up for anyone with a frames-based site - I contacted Google about poor ad targeting on my frames-based content and they sent me modified code optimised for the frames. Some of my pages about a particular European country were throwing up highly targeted content for hotels in the cities etc, but loads of the pages were targeting to islands in the South Pacific - only about 13,000 miles off topic!

Replaced the code, refreshed the page - South Pacific islands gone immediately, to be replaced by perfectly on target ads. Great! :)

Thanks for that tip. I've email Google to get the revised coding.

Tell you the truth, my frames site had the problem of getting French hotels on a South Sea Island page ;)

If you go to John_Caius site and check the JS coding he has there now against your coding, there is a small change...

...however, as Google tell you not to amend coding, you are best off emailing Google and asking them to give you new coding, rather than amending your coding on the basis of that example

I've left the old code on all my town pages, with the new code on the region pages.

Same thing here, I wrote to them and complained about it and 2 weeks later they wrote back with the new code. It's been almost a week now and clickthrough rate has more than doubled with the better targeted ads.

Whilst waiting Google's reply to me (I sincerely hope it is not 2 weeks)..

...can any of you who have put on Googles altered tags tell me if the altered tags are only for framed pages, or can you put them on all pages.

I can see a lot of work coming up here doing the alterations, but if the targeting improves that much, it would certainly be worth it

My pages come up as orphaned pages in the SERPs and the targeting change works just as well as when they're enclosed in a frameset.

I don't know if this given or not but I thought the problem with framed pages wasn't the frames in themselves (could someone please explain why frames would cause Adsense to have problems?), but the fact that, in my case, I am using javascript to force subpages to open in the frameset.

So the Mediapartners bot kept calling the pages with a javascript induced query string url, the long and the short of it - it just saw my index page over and over again.

I had an email back today with amended code for frames pages - plus the instruction only to use that particular code on pages that were framed.

I've noticed that since putting the frame enabled code on my pages that the MediaPartners bot has stopped a calling. Main Google crawlers very busy.

Also noticed that one page has been showing charity ads for almost a week now. It is the only page on which I have ads which is not in the Google search index, maybe the frames based code is pulling its information for the ads from the main Google crawlers, they at least don't trip up on my javascript.

I too have emailed Google after reading this thread and they've sent me the frame-friendly code.

Makes me wonder why they don't just put it in their "Ad Layout" section, but then, I think of AdSense (and Google in general) as the greatest thing ever, so I am not complaining.

I think its because they only want you to use the code for frames on frames pages...if they put in in the general coding, then they are likely to get more using it on non-frame pages by accident

In the few days that the targeted ads have appeared on the modified pages (about half my content), my CTR has approximately doubled and my CPC has gone up plenty too. Nice to see that it has real effects on revenue.

We are agreeing about too much these days, but I can concur that my figures have followed the same pattern
