Why doesn't Google give a boost to Adsense sites?

By giving sites that run Adsense a boost in the search results would allow Google to have much more exposure for their Adwords.

If the top few results of any search had sites that run Adsense then Google will drive much more traffic to those sites and those sites will have many more clicks and therefore Google will make more money from their Adwords program.

Why don't they do this?

Life is hard enough already in Google SERPS, without adding more stress to webmasters, in that to have any chance of showing up at or near the top, you would need to be an Adsense publisher.

One of the things that separate Google from other search engines is the integrity and quality of the search results.

If they biased the search for their advertising interest they could easily loose users.

Short term it might work, and might not degrade the SERPs too much, but people would get wise {I bet it would be first noticed here}, and then quality would suffer.

Best to keep a firewall between the two programs. It is not that difficult to SEO to appear in the top ten for some of your phrases. It is the really big ones that are really difficult to get.

Clearly if the focus of the SERPs was to be monetary reward for Google, they should just turn those Amazon results that clog up everything i'm looking for into their own affiliate links ;)

In light of G's quest for delivering relevant serps, boosting sites based on AdSense makes no sense. Sites which, for various reasons, do not need or seek that income streams are not less relevant to Joe Surfer.

How well G is doing on their quest is subject to debate, but an AdSense based boost would signal a very different focus in the googleplex.

Well, i think the boost you do get from your website is alot of googlebot visits. I know they run a different index for the adsense but i'm sure the conversion is pretty quickly as they're aware of 100% of the urls you have an ad on.

I'm sure this also translates to a smarter bot because if they can present ads on your focus group then they're doing a good job of writing a spider that can correctly identify that - increasing the capacity of there search engine market.

To me its a win win - i get more traffic and i earn revenue enough to pay for my costs of operating the site.

How well G is doing on their quest is subject to debate, but an AdSense based boost would signal a very different focus in the googleplex.

They could easily do this by stealth over the long haul. If the SE algo had a strong ellement of the Adsense page theme sensing technology built into it, and assuming that Adsense carrying pages become ever more focused garnering relevant Adsense ads over time. Then eventually the two will become much closer.

Because Adsense carriers get positive feedback on the "relevancy" and "quality" of ads delivered and focus on making their pages get what they think are the right ads then those pages are bound to shift towards being more relevant themeselves. As they become more relevant they will rank higher in Google.

This makes absolute sense. If Google uses an entirely different algo for searches and for Adsense then they are fighting against themeselves. Perhaps this explains much of the change in the search algo. There is a strong correllation in my small sample between Adwords terms and affected SERPs.

I disagree that promoting AdSense publishers and (by extension) punishing sites that DON'T use AdSense makes sense for Google in the long run. But even if it did, that's a long way from saying it is actually happpening.

Actually, Google does boost the pages with ads in the search results algorithm, but the ads decrease keyword density by a corresponding amount so it's a wash really!

In a way you DO get a boost. All your new pages that have Google ads but are not spidered will be visited by special googlebot -> [ Agent: Mediapartners-Google/2.1 ] And i belive this Mediapartners bot will submit this new link to google faster than you would do manualy...
