in the 7/07/2006 post in the official AdWords blog, google has announced that they are going to update the landing page quality algorithm.

makes a little sense

How exactly are they going to do this so it will remove MFA's would be my question to determine if MFA's will suffer a nice quick death.

i read somewhere that google would start judging sites based on user experience, such as how long the user stays on a page before clicking away - that would be bad for MFAs me thinks... not sure if it's really in the works though.

I've found it amazing that ads can run for pages/sites that have nothing more than search boxes or nothing more than forms to submit to fill out surveys to qualify for "free" products.

And those pages will still be allowed to run. All they have to do is become more user friendly (basically) to increase thei quality score

or

be willing to pay a high enough fee.

From the Inside AdWords blog:
[adwords.blogspot.com...]

we'd rather show one less ad than to show an ad which leads to a poor user experience -- since long-term user trust in AdWords is of overarching importance

Looks like they have a lot of work to do. I'm hoping this change makes it much more difficult for MFA sites but it all really depends on what their definition of a quality landing page is.

Google will not push away MFA's because they are making millions out of them. However, this algo change could be good news. If certain categories of advertisers will have to pay higher cpc, publishers might generate more revenue. Unless these advertisers decide to take their business elsewhere.
