AdSense enabled Site Search

What am I doing wrong?

An AdSense newbie, over the last month I was experimenting with AdSense for content, while waiting for the site to be substantially indexed by Google. That happened recently, and with Google having indexed over 80% of the site, I decided to use the Google Site Search to take advantage of any potential revenue it might offer.

I set it up from within the AdSense account, customised it down to every single detail so that is blended nicely to the site and updated one page at first for testing it. To my surprise, after performing a search using keywords that I already knew they exist within the site's indexed pages, it returned no result. I can't understand of why that happens as I chose 'Google WebSearch + SiteSearch' from within the AdSense menu, and the checkbox was checked for the site and not 'www'. I am sure I ve done it right; where it says 'Enter up to three URLs for SiteSearch:' I entered the domain using the correct format i.e. 'www.example.com'. I noticed that the search actually returns results but only from the www.example.com page (root) and not from any sub pages. I am sure the site is indexed as when I use site:www.example.com and the relevant keywords, I do get results if I go to google.com and do the query - but not from within the site. Do I have to use any special characters when I specify the domain URL i.e. an asterisk? I think it should search within sub pages as a default.

With Regards

Let me try to understand, you are getting no google serps at all?

The only serps I am getting are for the actual www.example.com - the underlying www.example.com/index.html that is. I am not getting any results from any other pages of the site - i.e. www.example.com/cat1/, www.example.com/cat3/sub2/ etc etc. And as I mentioned earlier, the keywords I am searching for are for sure within the other indexed pages of the site. It should be something really simple so I am a bit confused as to what is going wrong.

I also have the same experience. I'm guessing that it's because of low traffic to my new site. Have you found the reason?

If you search on the main Google site are your pages searchable from there. Can you carry out searches to make your pages appear?

Yes, if I go to google.com and do a 'site:www.example.com' and use the same keywords, the results actually appear for the relevant pages and sub pages. I haven't even modified the search code - just pasted it directly after its been generated. Actually, within AdSense reports, it shows that the queries have been performed. I couldn’t find anything in the AdSense help & faq either. Maybe I try and wait until the site is 100% indexed - it shouldn't take long. Its only 8 pages that hasn't been indexed. The keywords are I used for the queries are definately in the already-indexed pages (besides they appear if I type them from google.com - but not if I use my own site search).

When adding sitesearch, it just takes time for your crawled pages to appear on the sitesearch itself.

Google may have indexed your site 80%, but that 80% is not all in the main index, but the supplemental index.

Google sitesearch does not take results from the supplmental index and therefore you just need to wait it out for a bit until your pages start appearing in the main searches ( internal pages and not just your main home page that normally get into the main index first - your main home page will be in the main results, but other internal pages are still in the supplemental google index)

That was indeed, thanks for spotting it. As the site is only 2 months old and given the speed that Google indexes pages lately, it makes perfect sense. In fact, apart from the homepage, all other pages are marked as 'Supplemental Results'. I guess I will have to postpone the migration to AdSense for Search for a few more months. Pity.
