Adsense on older browsers

IE4.0 or older

What is the minimum browser requirement for viewing an Adsense ad without problems? One of my site visitors contacted me earlier to say that his Internet Explorer 4 browser crashes completely when he tries to view a page with Adsense on it.

Is this likely to be a fluke, or do older browsers regularly have problems with Adsense? I realise that a very small percentage of users have browsers as old as or older than IE4, but it's still a percentage i wouldn't want to lose due to technical problems.

Older browsers can have problems with javascript and iframes, which is what Adsense uses. Netscape v4.x won't show the Adsense code at all, you just get a small blank space.

You could recommend they upgrade to the latest version since the security issues with older browsers are a serious problem. This way you get the best of both worlds, helping them with a security issue, and getting them up to speed to accept Adsense coding.

Thanks for the reply, i've recommended to the user with the problem that they should upgrade their browser to Internet Explorer 5 or higher.

Recommend updating to IE5.5 for Win 95 and IE 6.0 for Win98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP. There are serious bugs with IE5.0 that could still cause lots of problems. Mac users should switch to an up-to-date non-MSIE browser as Microsoft no longer supports MSIE on Macs.
