Anyone else thinking along these lines?...

I just tried out the new adwords system for controlling bids by day and time of day.

I increased all bids during USA main hours by 30%.

I'm betting that a lot of other adwords folks will do the same. Hopefully, this will result in increased CPC and revenues for us Adsense folks.

Any thoughts on this?

CTR perhaps, but revenues are hard to say because that means decreased revenues during off pic hours.

what are the pick hours in USA?

Early morning? or after 5PM?

There are wider swings during the 24 hrs.. but avg. revenue per day has not changed ..

Well if advertisers end up spending more OVERALL then it'll trickle down to us. If they use this ability to reduce their ad spend, then it'll probably hurt.

Overall businesses really have no choice but to move in the direction of better tools and increased competitiveness, even if there might be some pain associated with it.

What I do not fully understand is the rationale behind scheduled campaigns (except for very targeted audiences, e.g. schoolkids).

But in general, I do not see how this can work in favour of the advertisers. Let's say, I am researching to buy a widget. I'm doing this as I see fit, be it Friday evening, Saturday morning, Wednesday after lunch, maybe even during work hours?

Does not seeing a specific ad influence my interest in the widget? Certainly not, because there will always be advertisers offering this widget. Will it affect my purchasing decision? Only with regards to the potential seller. So how is this supposed to work? Can someone explain this to me?

following situations

1. past experience can tell what is the best time of the day for conversions. better to utilise your maximum budget during that period.

2. if i am one selling widget related service in India. its better to utilise my budget when most of the people in India are surfing. I dont mind if someone from US clicks on my ads as well, as i can still provice service there, but My prime target remains Indians.

One of my assumptions (and you know about assumptions) is that smart pricing and/or advertiser geographic focus will cause a USA visitor to be more valuable on my site compared to foreign visitors (in terms of adsense revenue).

Foreign visitors are still worth something but not as much as USA visitors, imho.

My stats have always shown my CPM dwindling starting in the afternoon Eastern time.
