9 hours difference to Google time.
So the day changes just at 9am.
Typical the first hours of the day, very good eCPM. Around 50% higher than daily average.
When I take hourly stats, eCPM falls during the day.
But now a very extrem trend.
After the first 4 hours, eCPM falls to 50% below monthly average.
This happened first time Thursday.
Now Friday again.
The first big swing I saw was May 20th however in the past 14 days I have had previously unseen USD 8.50's through to USD 22.00 eCPMs on a core site that previously averaged USD 11-15.00.
I think AdSense has decided I should have a Rodeo cum Twister summer with a bit of roller coaster thrown in for good measure!
Has "daypart" bidding taken effect yet?
Good question!
I had a look round my AdWords account the other day and couldn't see it. Is it written in such large letters that it's too obvious?
After EFV mentioned "dayparting" I decided to have a look around my AdWords account to see if I could find anything of interest.
Anyway, I haven't done any advertising for a month or so simply because the CPC was getting too high for my keywords.
I only use AdWords occasionally to keep trade awareness of two of my more specialised sites so I thought I'd check what the current CPC's were and estimated positions.
Surprise, surprise, I dropped my CPC by 40% and the estimates showed virtually unchanged positions therefore I have resumed that campaign to see what actually transpires.
Now my thinking is that IF the CPC has dropped by that much, are there still AdWorders who do not know this, and perhaps there are only a few in number bidding for the top spots, whereas a month or so ago there were many vying for those positions and have dropped their campaigns altogether because of the high cost?
So, one day people are clicking on a majority of good EPC links, the next day they are clicking on a majority of 40% lower EPC links.
It's mere speculation however it fits in nicely with my though process this afternoon:-)
That would not however explain the sharp drop in CTR
I agree however I have also noticed a slight increase in MFAs in my AdLinks where I never used to have any and my earnings' drop has been most noticeable in AdLinks.
Could this be that the CPC has dropped to a level where they become displayed?
Again, it's mere speculation however something is causing it and for my sites I'm fairly convinced it's not trade related yet...mid July and August I wouldn't have a problem accepting that.
OTOH, both May and June both have had noticeably (though not horrendously) lower eCPMs than I was seeing earlier in the year, but that may be due to changes in the ways that I'm using AdSense and affiliate links on my travel-planning site. Seasonal demand may come into play, too: Now that the summer vacation season is here, many people have already made their travel plans.
i saw this today for the first time... some advertiser(s) was spending money like a drunken sailor home on shore leave... my average income for the day was exceeded by noon, then everything just shut down.
so now it's fluctuating wildly during the day, and all of the typical earnings patterns for each day of the week have also gone out the door... that happened weeks ago, as was noted above.
So, what we are seeing is one day, let's so for a good part of the day, we will get (example, no actual figure) a cpm of 2.00, and then it will start to inch up the rest of the day so it gets to where it usually is -- let's say 9.00.
And the next day, we might see really wacked out huge cpm earlier in the day (eg. 38.00), and then as the stats get better synced it will drop down to where it usually is -- lets say 9.00.
There's clearly other stuff going on though. I'm thinking a whole lot of algo tweaking happening.
