Is there a way to resize the default adsense banner? Especially the skyscraper banners?

No, there is just the four default sizes at this time.

I could have sworn on comcast.net they have slightly wider ads being displayed. You might want to checkk that out.

Premium folks have more control than the average Joe webmaster does. Comcast most likely fits into the better than average Joe webmaster category so you will see differences.
