If you have more than 1 site & your site is build over years and pages uses different type of ad blocks it become virtual impossible to change code on each page when you find a new good "alternate ad" which u want to add in adsense.
Now if google allows us to have an Alternate ad in account like for 468*60 Use [......] ad It will help lot of people.

Seems You do not use a CMS and/or SSI to insert the AdSense code.
I changed on several thouand pages several times the alternate ad.

no problem for me either. maybe it's time to update your sites to some recent technologies? use server side programming instead of 1995 style..
