Hi,

I have been using Google Adsense for over 3 months on 2 of my sites. I am not so successful as the content is not rich( let me admit that). I am starting another website for which I have very good content and expected to get good number (around 500-750 visitors as per my expectations) of visitors to my site.

What is the ideal number of ads on a page to fetch better revenew? Also any suggestions on type of ads ( banner, sky scraper, Image only ads..) that is adviceble?

Thanks

I thinnk the best advice is to put a channel on each banner and see which ones perform the best. It's a process of trial and error to find the banner and position that works best for you. Have a look at the heat map on the adsense support site to see where Google says the best results are had, and experiment.

What works best on my main site is to have a large rectangle bang in the centre of the page. In contrast, my new site I've just started seems to work better with a banner between the page header and the content. You need to find out what works for you.

I have found that 1 Leaderboard AdUnit 728 x 90 and the 1 AdLink 160 x 90 works best for me.

Do not be tempted to put too many ads on the page, it will dilute your earnings.

AdLinks can be an amazing earner if you get them displayed correctly, so far they have contributed 53.36% of my earnings this Month and for 2006 in total, USD 00,000.00, some 55.74%.

I'm still wary of Adlinks because my site design is evolving but continue telling how well they worked.

If you have long pages with lot of text.. I suggest atleast 2 leaderboards.. or surfers may just miss your ads for lack of visibility..

If I personally cut down my ads , my CTR drops by atleast 30% and I lose money ..

And of course blend them in... Pick the right colors and merge them in your website..

But if nobody clicks them, all they are doing is diluting your earnings big time.

Use channels, and if they work then leave them there, if they don't dump 'em.

I am a new adsense publisher as well - and I initially set up channels ( it was url channels in my eagerness)... only recently realised it should have been unique channels as I actually didn't include the main entrance page to my site as a channel - silly me.

My advice.

Depending on your content ( and using google preview) you will be able to determine if there are plenty of adverts that would display on your site.

Next, look at where you expect to get the majority of your traffic from and look at setting it up for that markets benefit and ease of use (navigational issues and clutter - if there is not too much content then a low number of ads per page would be needed - maybe JUST 1 ad unit per page with it being a leaderboard text+image ad or something).

Check the preview and look at the type of adverts likely to display to your main target visitors - are they appropriate? of interest to the people there? - If not then put on some competitive ad-filters so that more relevant adverts display.

Now set up a channel ad start testing each type of advert - it is a process of trial and error and you should use each different ad type for 1 week at least so you can compare on a week by week basis.

After several weeks, hopefully one advert type clearly performed the best. If this is the case, then you should use that ad type for a longer period of time - maybe 2weeks to 1month.

During the 2 weeks - 4 weeks extended trial you can be working on improving content or designing your second site or promoting the site and seeing if revenue increases or stays the same.

If revenue increases, continue doing what you have done. If it decreases or ceases then look at the adverts again via the preview tool and check to ensure the quality of adverts is still shown to your targeted visitors.

It will simply be an ongoing process of trial and error with any site that has not got a high CTR.

Hopefully this is of some help as I am a novice myself but am approaching it with some method. The key is patience, planning & improvement. Visitors will grow weary of a 100% static site when they have read all the content, so fresh content does help improve visitor returns.

Ganceann says she is new to adsense but obviously she has read a lot and thought it out well, good plan Ganceann, it should work well for you.

I am a he - look up the meaning of the word Ganceann and thats why I chose it :P

But the reason I read a lot was I did not have a website that had sufficient content when I first thought about using adsense. Obviously I found some insights into using adsense when browsing different forums and hearing other peoples stories. I did read the TOS as well and felt I shouldn't have any worries as I had planned a content based site... the only problem with my site is I know it is in a low revenue stream area so the potential to make profits is somewhat limited. I am therefore using this site as a means of evaluating adsense and becoming familiar with it and to eventually set up another site down the line more focussed on a niche interest.

I have taken them onboard, and really still am anxious to try things out - just wish I had joined up a long time ago and was into making more content/another site instead of playing with adsense tools :P

> I am a he

My apologies! It's just that I am used to skipping through quickly and my tired brain usually fills in the blanks, I read your name as GraceAnn the first time.
