Basic Adsense questions for someone looking to apply

Hi,

I am looking into using adsense for the first time.

Two questions...

1) Can I apply just after I've put my site online - when I will have little traffic - or do I need to wait for a bit?

2) Can I put google ads in a box titles 'Other Links' or 'Useful Links'? Or would this be seen as trying to get people to click on links? I only ask because my site will be set into tables. Each table has a heading and I wasn't sure what to title to table with ads in.

Many thanks

Headings for ads can be "Sponsored Links" or "Advertisments" only, if I remember correctly.

MyGen is right. Any other way of labeling your ads is against Adsense TOS. (and therefore might get you booted from the program)

Headings can also be "ads by gooooogle" etc. Important is that the people know that they are clicking an ad.

Anton, that advice is incorrect. As suggested previously, the OP should read the Program Policies. They are very specific.

Really? Insofar as I am aware the policy has not changed from this:

Labeling Ads

Publishers may not label the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or "advertisements." This includes any text directly above our ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.

Thats great guys thanks....

I also just wondered whether the application process to get adsense means they look at your site traffic first... or can I apply now, a couple of weeks before site launch?

And just to correct any misconseptions - this site is info based not just for adsense :)

IMO "rj87uk" gave you the best advice but should have explained why you shouldn't put AdSense on the site yet.

The bottom line is that the whole Internet space is about free traffic. Having an ad-free site will generate more goodwill when people visit it. That means more bookmarking, more return visits, more inbound links. More inbound links means higher Google rankings, more visitors, more goodwill, etc. It's a positive feedback cycle. Having ads won't prevent that from happening, but it will create a little extra friction at each point.

Trying to "monetize" a handful of visitors a day looks more than a little desperate. My philosophy is that it's better to have patience, because someday you'll be serving hundreds or thousands of people a day.

The bottom line is ... ... thousands of people a day.

That's what I was getting at, but had to run out the office and couldn't leave you answer-less. Go read the TOS. Thanks jomaxx, I want one of you sitting next to me at all times ready to answer questions.

IMO there should be no need for people to ask such questions, It implies that they have no read the TOS.

Exception being if they do not understand anything and in that case its better to Email Google and get advice from the horse.

Dumb question:

Do we have to put 'Advertisements' or 'Ads by Google' at all?
Are we allowed to just leave that blank and simply present the ads? -Larry

Larry, you can just leave the ADs as are, with out any text.
