May 14th - Today looks better than yesterday.

Who knows why...

Going off on a rather better start, my ecpm rose greatly in comparison to the last couple of days, but still not as high as it was before.

Stats are looking acceptable with a double fold increase of income in the last hour... crazy huh.

Anyone else notice a sudden change?

We just had our first "normal" day since we tried experimenting with Adlinks last month. Will take me a couple weeks to get up the courage to try again and find out if the fall-off was really due to the Adlinks or to some general trend.

>a couple weeks to get up the courage

Good point, I too seem to only master the will to experiment when things are very slow.

I am seeing totally extreme CTR and eCPM swings from one day to the next that I have never seen before.

Today, Tuesday, compared to Monday my CTR is up 60% and my eCPM up by 105%!

My site in 3 years has never varied +/-20% from its average CTR and eCPM.

IF, yeah if, today continues in the same vein I shall easily have my best-ever day since my earnings are already looking as they normally do 3-4 hours ahead.

Therefore what will tomorrow bring, further new low records?

This is bizarre, what are they doing?

"if the fall-off was really due to the Adlinks or to some general trend."

I share your sentiments. One of the most annoying aspects of the AdSense program is not knowing whether your tests really failed or the overall AdSense system has abrubtly changed.

In regard to AdLinks... I've had great success with them! I have a couple of hundred pages where I have them paired with leader boards. It seems many people like the variety AdLinks offer while others seem to want the ad text "in their face".

I hate 'maintainance'

Everything down till y/day... Today is slightly better..

Nowhere near Avg. levels.

Yeah the ups and downs are Las Vegas style nowadays OptiRex, why aren't we giving those 'mainenance downs' names like in the updates?

I vote for calling this one Rodeo

It's funny, when I went to PubCon in Boston I was mainly interested in seeing if I could clear up a problem with Google ranking for single search phrase. That didn't happen:-)

What made the conference worthwhile was attending some marketing seminars which rewakened my willingness to experiment with our site. A couple years ago, I got into the habit of doing SEO only, and that very carefully, for fear navigation changes or content redistribution would cost us in the SERPs.

Since getting back, we've done a major Adlinks experiment (disaster, but who knows:-) and are looking at the basic ordering methodology for the widgets we sell for the first time in years. In one case (which will no doubt prove to be transient) sell through for one of our widgets went from a multi-year average of about 15% to over 50%! I even ordered up "Tested Advertising Methods" which was mentioned by a few speakers, and I've never read a marketing book in my life.

I hate seeing our Adsense revenue go in the wrong direction as much as anybody, but sometimes you have to back up the truck and take a different turn if you want to get where you're going faster.
