My website isnt designed in a nice way, but on Adsense, gettting a click thru of around 7 - 9 %

I changed my design to one template i really liked and the click thru dropped to 50 %.

Can people suggest some design that can bring in good money and looks good as well.

I used the same Colors and ads are in content. Only changed the design of page.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

1) It is against AdSense TOS to mention CTR I believe.

2) Yes, your layout, colours and general page design can make a big difference (for example, see the "heat map" in the AdSense help pages, but I like to believe that the content is the most important thing in the end!

thanks Damon.

but am not talking about How much Click Thru is achieved by a person, but trying to find out some template that helps to get higher Click Thru.

i was planning to change the template on my site and after change, the click thru dropped by half.

I was looking for some template that can help to achieve good click thru and at the same time keep the design nice looking.

thanks for your inputs

Content

If you find the magic way to get real content in a template let me know. Some has to write it!

Work, make your site worth visiting for something that is other than clicking ads

It's called coding and coding may look like magic if you're unaware of what programmers can accomplish. Who said the content comes from nowhere? Who said noone has to write it? What are you talking about?

Work, make your site worth visiting for something that is other than clicking ads.

Ah, come on! Where did you get the idea he's not already "working" and not producing valuable content for his/her visitors? Sounds insulting to me.

dhaliwal, Don't push it hard. I mean, 7 - 9% CTR is quite good. Keep your changes minimal and the template simple. Add that bit of estetiq touch by using gradient background images around.

Sad but true, best converting sites are usually the ugly ones.

- Simple is the best,
- Use "White space" intelligently,
- Keep readability and usability on top of your design rules list.

I don't think you can say that there is one type of template that works best for all sites. The internet and Adsense doesn't really work on a one size fits all methodology.

If you have found that altering your pages gives you a worse ctr, then I'd think about restoring it to what it was. But at the same time, CTR isn't the holy grail - overall earnings is what it's all about. You might get a lower ctr with the new design, but it also might attract better value clicks, so I'd be inclined to look at statistics overall when deciding if it's a benefit or not.

I would say that designs that are painful on the eye are going to put off visitors, so I would personally be looking at designs that please visitors as well as work for adsense. I'm sure the two go hand in hand - especially with the long term view.

the content is the most important thing in the end!

I sincerely apologize for making the comments that I did. I was logged into another forum at the same time. On that other forum I was being pestered by a poster about a scraping subject where he/she was calling it a template. It wasn’t, the content was taken from my site complete with my images, still linked from my server.

Somehow I posted my reply to you as I was also reading hear. I was too frustrated to look I guess. That isn’t an excuse but it is the truth.

I am very sorry for doing that and I am embarrassed that I did so. Tonight I read this thread and saw my dumbass post.

Please accept my apologies.

i agree that bad designed sites are having good conversion.

I didn't mean bad designed sites convert better. A good design can look ugly too which is tolerated by the functionality.

the best way to increase ctr is to integrate your ads into the content. have no border around the ads so they flow with the site.

For what it's worth,

I put a style function into my pages that does not call a file of any sort.

It does tell FF what to do, along with even IE5 today I changed it some to include IE7 that wasn't easy there isn't a set rule for a beta.

Google has begun ranking pages on real word content. The indexing will be focused on content and the meaning of the content.
Now we have to put a keyword into a sentence that makes sense. More than before. I see that as a easier way to do seo without having to worry about content conflicting with SEO.

My website can be called ugly. It is ugly.

Most vistors like it I don't know why?

But they convert more than 8%

there was no need for an apology.

Actually, i didnt give much importance to your earlier comments. Many a times, confusions happen.

Regarding the design. I would agree that having a good design and having high Click Thru is what i want. I agree that there can't be a single design that may fit into this.

But i was looking for some layouts that people have seen to convert well.

I am making my designer to try and try till the time click through is better and the design is also appealing.
