Tribalfusion & Adsense

A few days ago I got accepted at Tribalfusion, after two years of using Adsense. My Adsense eCPM rates have always been low so I figured Tribalfusion could help me out. They promise high(er) CPM rates.

However I do want to keep using Adsense. As backup (Servers need to be paid, better to spread the risk, right?) and as 'default ad' @ tribalfusion. This last one is important: Its allows me to show another ad (Adsense) when tribalfusion has no paid ads available.

In case of such a 'default ad' being served, tribalfusion creates an iFrame with as source a file with my Adsense code. This does work, however, if the googlebot checks it out it finds an empty file with only the google code. No content, and thus no relevant ads.

To solve this I have a pretty simple idea, but i'm not sure if google would allow this. Maybe you guys can give your opinion?

The idea is to check the hostname of each visitor in the adsense-code-file. In case of a normal visitor (non-google hostname) the google code is shown (like usual). In case of the googlebot visiting a simple redirect is done to the page with main content. The googlebot can do his thing, and the visitors will see relevant ads.

Even though this is not 'modifying google code', i'm not sure if this would be allowed. What do you guys think? :)

You can keep Google ads in a frame, that's not against the rules. When you create Adsense code, don't forget to checkmark box "Ads in Frames".

A little off topic to your post but I tried TF last month when my AS revenues started dipping below an acceptable level. The problem with TF is that you need a LOT of unique visitors since they go to default/psa ads after the 4th page is served to a unique visitor. Another thing I didn't like was they served about 30% to 40% ads for their site. Even though I was paid for these ads, I specifically wanted relevant ads to my content, which was not TF. Short story long, I backed out, redesigned my AS ads and saw a noticible bump in my Google revenues.

I know the account manager I had at TF confirmed you can designate AS as your default ads but I never stuck around long enough to try. You will need lots of traffic to make money with eCPM banners and they control the supply. Good luck!

Thanks :-)

Do you think google would have a problem with me serving the googlebot another page as the website visitors? I'll 'redirect' the googlebot to the main page with content, so that relevant ads are shown :)

I'm not sure if i'm allowed to give the actual numbers, but TF seems to have an effective CPM rate of about twice as much as AS has. Probably because a big portion of my website is like an image gallery. I'm getting about 125k hits a day right now.

The site has an unique/hits ratio of about 1:12 and TF seems to be able to serve half of that. The other 6 should be done by google, but, right now the google ads produced by TF are not relevant to the website content. Thats why i need to pull this 'trick' :-)

TF is good, we've been a long term partner, but we find they don't scale very well. That is, you kinda baseline what traffic you can get and revenue you can get and then there is diminishing returns after that baseline. As for a mix with adsense, contact TF about setting a minimum CPM for your TF ads. So, basically, you take your average CPM on adsense, and say, TF, don't serve any ads if they have a CPM under this. It's a very easy way to create the mix.
