Image ads for large rectangles

Is anybody going to use them?

In today's "Inside Adsense" email there was an article about increasing numbers of image ads available in the rectangle / large rectangle format, advising us to stop blocking image ads and increase earnings.

I block image ads because they look hideous, but if they earned me more money I could get over that ;). So my question is, are any of you going to be trying these image ads, or has anyone got any experiences with them to report?

"Inside Adsense" what's that? I feel kinda left out.

I started blocking recently as I found earnings dropping on a particular page that displayed a particular image ad.

It's a secret but hey I'm feeling generous today:
[groups.google.com...]
[adsense.blogspot.com...]

sorry david, wish my layout supported that size.

Scurramunga.... incase that link gets deleted, just do a Google search for "inside adsense" (without the quotes) and it should be in the top results.

I was pretty happy to see the 250x250 size block added to the image supporting group. I've been wanting to swith a ton of pages to that size, but didn't want to give up image support.

Now I can try it and see how it works out.

As far as appearances and pay rates go.... the image adds that have appeared on my site look good, and pay better in most cases. The ones that don't are the ones that are off topic, but that's true of regular off topic CPC ads too.

Now the CPM ads that show up as text ads (they look like the big PSAs), yeah they look bad. Turn on image ads and I think you'll do away with most of the ugly CPM text ads.

Apologies for not replying sooner, as I have just seen your replies a few minutes ago.

I will check out the links now. Thanks.

Well, I'm sitting here wondering when some images are going to show up.

I've put a couple of places on my sites for the large block images (250x250 and 300x250) but nothing as yet has come up.

Quite likely I'm in a particular niche that simply doesn't have the advertisers who are using this method.

I put a block image ad on the homepage yesterday, just as a test, and after showing some images for an hour or so, the area went blank, and thats when I reverted back to text ads!

You might be a lot better off selecting the setting that shows both text and image ads.

Yes, the best option is to select 'text and image ads'. If you opt into just image ads, then only image ads can compete in the auction to display on your site. The same applies if you've chosen to display only text ads.

When you opt into both types of ads, you open the door to the largest possible pool of advertisements bidding to display on your site in auction. This means that the highest paying ads available will always show.

Adsenseadvisor, how come on my homepage the clicks are less than 5 cents a piece but on my interior pages the clicks are 30 cents or higher FOR THE SAME AD? If the ads are available at 30 cents why are they getting me 5 cents or less. Sadly I have switched my hompage to YPN for this reason.
