Google already offering history-based targeting?

Certain huge site offers ads targeted to me but not site content

I won't mention any URLs, but a certain hugely popular movie site runs Google AdSense. But instead of ads for DVDs, posters, and other movie-related stuff, I see ads for tech, IT, and electronics items (I visit a lot of these pages).

These ads are clearly not relevant to the page itself, but they ARE targeted to me and I feel much more inclined to click on them.

I clicked on a corner of the ad block (the "What's this?" link) and it said it was Google AdSense.

I guess history-based targeting is right around the corner.

I am not sure if you are on about IMDB, but I think they do run adsense.

Topix.net does something similar. See:

And the COLUMBIA JOURNALISM REVIEW article that's referenced in that thread:

Such "behaviorial" approaches obviously make sense on news, entertainment, and similar sites where users aren't looking to buy products or services related to the topic they're reading about (whether it's a fire, the war in Iraq, or Tom Cruise's new kid).

They are simply using popular keywords to trigger ads which are more likely to be clicked by masses. Premium publisher feature.
