anyone making money using wikis?

I would think it's probably against the adsense TOS. If it isn't then it is not the most efficient way to make money because other people can edit anything you wrote at sites like wikipedia.com. Someone could just delete your entry and write whatever they want.

Some people who have made edits to a page even copyright their material to prevent future editing. Plus, the CTR and EPC for wikipedia is low.

I'm not sure about using adsense on other wikis, I just searched the site for old topics on this. Did you do search first? If you need more information just look for it, your answer is somewhere in a past topic. ;)

I plan to add Wiki to my site, but the user contributed content will be as supplement to my own.

I think it's a tough call. Short term probably ok, long term, we know what G thinks of DMOZ feeds.

I think the original poster was asking about using wiki software as a means of user interaction, and not putting up yet another Wikipedia clone.

If the former, using AdSense in a user-editable environment would only make sense with a mature, well-managed community.

I did not mean another wikipedia clone! Rather a site which is fully editable by users, ie in the "wiki" style.

Simply as a CMS, it seems worthwhile, as the software is very easy to use and not bloated like joomla. I take it from the sour responses nobody here is using a wiki-style informational site with their adsense.

Nitrous can you elaborate? I think any niche (mine is eastern europe) can be made far more in-depth by adding wiki functionality. This way evergreens can be updated as time passes by engaged visitors, and built in RSS support can provide a news section that lures in one timers for a second look.

hi solobrian, i haven't had much luck from the standpoint of user contribution. The reality is that users don't just start contributing to your site because you have wiki functionality. Getting over that hurdle seems a bit difficult to me. Outside of that having the 'functionality' in place, even if no one uses it can add to individuals perception regarding your overall site and what it was 'made for'...

Only add it if your site needs it. If it'll just be an empty shell then forget it.

On one of my phpBB sites, I am using a cms_articles mod that is quite interesting.
By experimenting with different adsense locations I was able to get the ads targeted spot on eventually.
You might want to got to the phpBB support sites for more info, if this is what you are looking for.
Members contribute evergreen articles in real-time.
In order to get it jump started, I simply inserted a handful of articles from the free submission sites, and it took off from there.
