I can transfer the money myself
It's fast and convenient, but I have to say I can think of better ways of spending £300 each year.
Mar 2003, £5,000 sterling converted to $11,900 Canadian.
Sep 2003, £5,000 sterling converted to $10,800 Canadian.
Jun 2004, £5,000 sterling converted to $12,500 Canadian.
Jan 2006, £5,000 sterling converted to $10,000 Canadian.
So even though the same amount left here on each of those occasions, vastly different amounts were arriving in Canada. Or to look at it the other way - to make the same amount arrive in Canada each time, then the amount leaving here would of course vary dramatically. I'm no economist so I can't offer advice, but it's something else to be aware of - exchange rate fluctuations can work for you, or against you.
