Swap programme when Adsense is "empty"

What do you think of the following strategy?

If it always turns out that the earning from Adsense drop in the second half of the month, simply swap the programmes and not show any google ads anymore but choose another programme.

It should be alright with the TOS if google ads are not shown at the same time.

This way, when adsense is "empty" of high-value clickthrough ads for your website, another programme could be used instead.

Or does it change every time?

The only think I know is, my earnings of Adsense have dropped the last 2 weeks now to something to an not very attractive level.

the problem is only google has so much traffic, so all alternative programmes are probably "empty" a lot earlier.

What I'd like to see is an option in our AdSense control panel that would allow us to swap to an alternative banner when Google couldn't fill 'x' number of slots. For instance if given an option on the 120x600 layout if Google only had one or two advertisers, I'd probably swap to my alternative banner on many of my pages.

Currently, there are no other programs available to the small publisher that directly compete with AdSense, so there's no need in removing your AdSense code at all since the AdSense program does not prohibit other advertising on the same page as AdSense.

That will change in the future since there are competitors on the horizon, but not now.
