What the wierd thing is, when I do this, almost instantly my Adsense earnings more than double for the day. This happens almost every time. The next day it usually goes back to normal. The CTR goes up and the number of clicks increase.
I find it hard to believe this is a normal fluctuation because it happens every time without fail.
I am wondering if perhaps the Frontpage Extensions (on a Linux Box) are hitting links in the google iframe? I would not think so, and if it was the case I would imagine my account would have been closed by now since I have edited hundreds of pages over the last couple of months.
Any ideas?
I have a total of 10 adsense clicks at 3pm. After a half hour, I have 18 clicks..
Adsense is notorious for updating different data in bunches at different times, so there really isn't any way of knowing when those clicks actually came in. Just because it looks like 6 clicks came in half an hour doesn't make it so.
<added>And no, there isn't anything in the FP extensions that is going to be clicking links.</added>
Are you absolutely sure those extra clicks aren't accidental clicks by you?
100% positive. In fact, in FrontPage, unless you click "preview" you do not even see the ads as they are not renedered (no javascript is). I view the page in my browser when finished, but do not click on anything.
But its so few a number of clicks that purely mathmatical variation could easily account for it.
I was using example data to illustrate an 80% increase. Just did a few more pages while waiting for replies and it is now well over that.
Something is going on, just cannot figure out what.
I don't know why that is: even if it's just a design change and not any text, that seems to be the effect.
One time I just added an individual channel to each of about 75 pages and the income went waaaaay up.
It always comes back down, though.
Maybe Google gives "new" pages the benefit of a doubt and serves them higher-paying ads?

[edit] Whoops, I meant to add I do not use Frontpage in any way, shape or form, so I don't think it's a Frontpage thing. [/edit]
I've used AdSense with FP since it came out. I've never seen anything abnormal when using FrontPage and AdSense. Oh wait, yes I do. When I'm heavily involved in content updates, page views get a little skewed because I edit at the browser level. Other than that, click throughs remain fairly consistent.
