Posted earlier that I was scared because my ctr went up dramatically. Given the traffic profile on my site -- I have a LARGE number of accidental type-ins to my site -- my CTR on adsense is always crummy. (On the other hand, my firefox referrel button does nicely.)

Difference, it turns out, was the lime green ads for saint patrick's day.

I changed my ad title text to lime green after establishing CTR was back to normal with my regular color ads -- which were placed in the "right" place but the same color as everything else.

Yup. CTR's up 10 fold when the ads are lime green. Other colors don't have this effect, I've tried other colors in the past. Me a happy camper. I happen to hate lime green as a color and it certainly doesn't match my site but hey, I'll live with it. Can't explain it. Hate that color. *I* would never click on an ad that color. But the money ... I'm selling out on my color scheme for moola. :)

Is it the lime green that's doing it, or just the fact that it's a stark contrast to the rest of the pages?

Blending ads doesn't always work - some sites seem to do better with high contrast.

That's interesting! I'm glad to hear the lime green is working for you. Make sure to use channels to continue experimenting and optimizing your pages!

Thanks. I'm enjoying playing with the layout purely as an academic exercise. It's like a brain teaser with a cash bonus when I get something right ... :)
