I have up to 25,000 impressions a day on a hobby site, and make nothing on it... time to change THAT statistic!
With all of your help.... So thank you in advance. I hope to share my experiences going forward.
And I was thinking how bad it must be for those people that wake up in the morning and need to rush around and get to work to make thier lousy pittance.- If there was an award for making someone feel low - you'd be the winner. Yes, there are people who quit their jobs and make this their full time job. Most of us I believe still have day time jobs.
Having said that, c'mon in the water's fine. (I like it!) With that kind of traffic to work with you definitely have a great head start.
This is especially important if you have a family to support. If your site goes down the SERPs, gets banned, or just has a couple of lousy months ...
Work to have other streams of income, from the site or in the 'real world', and have a realistic contingency plan.
I've read other people here giving up the day job, only to have Google do another update, and then, it's brown underpants time.
So I agree with you all. Adsense will just be one pillar.... though it'll be a big, fat, concrete with rebar in it sized pillar... :-) To start at least...
1) I've been working about quarter-time over the last three weeks.
2) My website has enormous scalability
3) I have about a year and a half of "cushion."
I can work on my website 60 hours a week without feeling stressed (because I love it). I think it's a good idea.
AdSense has great potential but realizing that potential is not always as easy as it seems and not having a "day job" makes the uncertainty a fearful thing if you don't have *some* cushion to fall back on if the bottom drops out suddenly.
Also:
1) Many people like their day jobs and have no desire to quit.
2) Creating sites for AdSense may be an opportunity, but it's unlikely to be a career.

That's a good idea! I can picture it now. Moving to Belize or perhaps Costa Rica. Hiring a full time house girl, who wears a skimpy French maids oufit, and serves me OJ and coffee in bed, while I crank up the laptop and see how much money I made while I was sleeping. This would be good and I think I'll look into it when I hit the $1000 a day mark, o'wait, looks like im already there! Ha HA!
Intresting about the suggestions on keeping your day job. But I disagree. You should quit your job tommorow. You'll never get anywhere working for someone else or doing the internet parttime, its a fallacy,(job) perpatrated by society, who are brainwashed by governments and old money institutions. I think if someone wants to truly become wealthy they need to give up thier immediate need for security, and risk everything for that goal. If you look at any self made millionare they all have this in common. They rolled the dice, put it on the line, took the chance. They did it becuase they were desperate to become wealthy.
I'm off to look at french maid outfits.

"Risk everything" also means you may lose.
It's called Tolerance for Ambiguity, some got it, others just don't, I have it, my wife doesn't, I went solo when I realized 2 things:
a) I have too much energy and momentum to waste on working for someone else, no matter how much they are paying me, I am much better off working for myself.
b) Life is too short, and my dreams and aspirations are too big to be boxed in a job and a salary, even a top management job and an excellent salary.
Not all people are like that, some are happy bosses, others are happy employees, those in the middle that do not know for sure which type they belong to are usually the unhappy ones, find out which type you are, don't allow greed to be your only motivation, follow your destiny, and don't look back.
Now I don't want to hear stories about how you risked everything in '98, lost it all in '00 and now you're back risking it all again. We all know the story of the brother-in-law who goes from one get-rich-quick scheme to another, always optimistic, always going broke, always getting up, dusting himself off and trying again. Everyone always whispering "loser" behind his back.
Yes, you've got to take risks in life. You've also got to make wise choices because risking everything just isn't the same the second time around.

Exactly why I am dreaming about quiting my job. Nothing wrong with my job, interesting as it is as a scientist, earning quite well, but it just can't beat the idea/dream of working for my self when I want, having the freedom to organize my day/week/year exactely as I want, and from wherever I want. But still a long way to go. Maybe in some years if I can manage to convert some more of my many ideas into new sites.
