Has anyone suggested anything about the height of skyscrapers?

I just put some on some small individual product pages, and they're so tall with 4 ads that it leaves a big gap between the end of my product information section, which is on the left side, and the bottom navigation and footer area.

It would be nice if there were a choice instead of having them all four high, like being able to have only two or three to better adapt to the design of some types of pages.

Kind of the same thing on another site that's got a narrow left border background. It would be nice if there could be 3 for the type that fits well across the top rather than the four, to accommodate that type of design.

The ads actually enhance the design of the pages and are right on target being on ecom pages, it's the size that I'm finding a little difficult to work around on some pages. That type would work well with having a choice of 3 instead of 4 across the top.

Premium publishers have a much wider variety of sizes, so I wouldn't be surprised if regular publishers eventually get the same.

I've seen a few new sizes in my travels recently, including a really sharp looking single ad box. It is the perfect size for running beside a regular sized banner ad on the top of a page (or bottom). A very unobtrusive ad layout, IMO, and a good use if you just have a little bit of space and don't want to overpower the page with a larger sized AdSense box.

Jen, I'm putting them on pages where it makes little difference if they're inobtrusive or not. They're small, very targeted ecom sites that are fairly low margin mark-up, so it makes little difference to me whether people buy or click.

The ads are right on topic, totally applicable, and the advantage is that there's no customer support or follow-up that needs to be done on my end. Either way, visitors are getting exactly what they're looking for.

Being small for the time being, adding AdSense is actually value-added content for visitors, giving them a wider product choice than I'm currently offering.

I hope more design options become available to everyone before long; there are a few projects in the pipeline for January that will fit well and it would be nice to have more flexibility.

Thanks!

Marcia: How about using a "banner" or "leaderboard" ad between your content and footer instead of the "skyscraper" along the side. This is the approach we took in similar situations as you describe.

There are a lot of ad formats that would be useful!

Something in-between the leaderboard and the banner - say a three-ad 700x60.

A two-ad inline box, 300x130 or maybe 400x100.
