Under click attack -- hope I won't get banned

10 minutes ago, I noticed that my earnings increased by 8 dollars in a short period of time. I immediately thought it had to be a click attack.

I've already sent an e-mail to google. I hope I won't get banned :(
Is there any reason I should worry?
This question is directed to small publishers.

I think it is well worth getting logging software, so you have more of an idea what is happening.

Earnings are not the issue really.. Is there a bump in CTR? One click can = $8, you might have just gotten lucky.

And?

Can be a single $8 click. That happens some times.

You can store each report under

YYYYMMDD HHMM.htm

Since each report contains the top 25 ad channels, You can identify what ad chanel brought a big change, how many clicks involved.

Well, actually one click is out of the question.
That's because I usually earn no more than $5 on this site and apart from that I know how many clicks I had had before it happened - the difference is 10 clicks
(the main page stats are usually ahead of the report stats so I could count the clicks).

The only thing I fear is that Google from now on might keep an eye on me(provided that they don't ban me now which is very unlikely, it seems) and someday when something similiar happens they would ban me.
I don't know what to think - I might be somewhat obssessive(no doubt under the influence of those google-banned-me-unfairly-posts).

Anyway thanks for replies

a) when you're small, normal fluctuations will appear much larger.

b) the human brain is not good at estimating the likelihood of unexpected combinations of events.

c) clusters of events that would go unnoticed if you had ten times the traffic will look surprising, even though they're completely normal.

d) someone can discover a useful page on your site, post it in a relevant online forum, and result in a whole bunch of people coming to your site in a short time. Such "spikes" can be very hard to distinguish from an "attack".

Finally, in counterbalance to all the "I got banned by Google" posts, I also used to get worried when I saw $5 back when the norm was $.50. Despite knowing the math, it took a long time before I could actually appreciate that a 10-1 fluctuation is not that unlikely to come along when you're just starting out and have low traffic.

When you're small, the fluctuations look big. But if you take a look through the postings in this forum, you'll find very few that say "My earnings shot up to $10 today, and Google banned me!". The banned brethern seem to be making multiple thousands each month, as a rule. It would be plausible for Google to be focusing most of their limited fraud-investigating resources on the high-dollar sites rather than on the $5/day sites.

come on dude,
+ or - $8 does not make any difference.

That's not a click attack.

Relax dude.

I'd be more worried about contacting Google especially today (stock tanked), hopfully whoever reads your email is not having a bad hair day.

I agree with toldan. Take a chill pill. It will cost Google more than $8 just to reply to you.
