Let a domain lapse that once had Adsense?

We know that if you register a domain that had been previously registered, and that previous site had Adsense and got booted by G, if you put Adsense ads on your new site with the same domain, you will likely get booted.

But what about the reverse? What if you have a site that briefly (for a few months) had Adsense on it, and then you later take the site down and let the domain name lapse? What if the next person who registers that domain puts his Adsense on it, and then gets booted? Will you get booted too, by association?

If so, does that mean that we should never let domain names lapse (or sell domain names, for that matter) that were ever associated with our Adsense account?

I guess you have a valid point.

Most reasonable solution would be to notify google in writing that a particulat domain is no longer held by you and you are letting it lapse by not renewing it.

Also, indicate the fear of it being used by a another adsense member in case someone registers it.

I also have a similar fear, when i SELL a particular domain to someone who wants it for adsense. i would take the same action as suggested above.

Personally, I have noted that no matter how bad a domain is, it pays itself for the domain cost and hosting over an year in adsense. I have not let my domains lapse, even if they dont earn because maybe they would earn some day and recover costs. It depends what sort of domains have you registered.
