Determining which ad position works best

Can I use channels to do this?

Let's say I have AdSense in the header, footer and right sid skyscraper positions. How can I determine which ads are producing clicks? Is that something you use the channels feature for?

I hope someone can explain in detail how to accomplish this. Thanks.

I know that channels would not work for this - channel will track the particular (whole) page, not the ad itself. I am not sure how to achieve the above.

Yes, just create 3 channels and name them (page-header, page-footer and page-side) and see which one produces the most revenue.

Furthermore, once you have tested that out for a week or so, remove one of the ads, like the least performing, and see if there is an impact in total earnings for the rest of the ads.

As several others have already explained, you can use channels for this purpose. You will need to make sure that you use custom channels rather than URL channels, though. To learn more about the differences, see: [google.com ]

I guess I'm a bit late to say that you can, and should use a channel for each banner. And I'm also a bit late to say that you should junk poor performing banners.

I would say that I've used channels in the way you describe very sucessfully to optimise adsense earnings. It's deffinitely been my experience that less banners can give more income.
