I have had a site for about 20 months and I have been working really hard to build traffic. My income have been about 5 USD a day and then suddenly: Millions of users all over the world type the keywords where one of my subsites is nr. 1 on Google. - I had some pictures that made globel news and frontpages everywhere.
This happened about 10 days ago. I got a dedicated server my alexa rank was near 2000 and earned a lot. Now the traffic is slowly going down and I fear that the good times will be over by next week.

I would like to know from others that have experienced something similar how a massive peak in traffic affects long term income?

Do many pageviews somehow increase earnings per click in the long run?

Seems unlikely. There may be a short-term hangover effect of some kind, but why would or should there be a longterm effect?

I had a simalar situation. Yes after the massive peak it dropped, but it dropped to a point that was still 10x larger then before the spike and has stayed there since.

Congrats

I was responding to the question of whether the earnings per click will be permanently increased. I think Roadkill may be referring to overall traffic, which may well see a permanent bump if you have a site that people remember and return to.

Yes I ment the traffic, I should have been more clear. Cost per click seems to have as many ups and downs as everything else. I dont think its something to focus on too much. With increased traffic comes increased revenue. So in the long run you will make more money and for me has continued to grow, just slower. Just be honest as the day is long and you can make good money for a long time. You have a great start at 2000 Alexa in 20 months.
