I like the idea but will probably be considered "encouraging your users to click ads" which is a violation of the Terms of Service :(

IMHO you should be aiming for maximum $ - not letting users select what ads type of ads they see.

Most of your visitors (given the option) would not have ads displayed at all. You can optimise your site to get good revenue from adsense without hitting them square in the face with a wall of ads.

You are the one that sees the Google stats, it's down to you to decide!

It's probably academic anyway, as Google don't provide the facility for visitors to change preferences. You might be able to do it by offering them a choice of pages.

Visitors don't visit websites to see ads - they visit for content. Offering them the facility to choose ad formats is very unlikely to get many takers. Besides, there is always the chance they would choose the format that is least likely to earn you money!

If you are worried about visitors reactions to the ads, then make sure you don't go overboard with the ads. That's the thing that's most likely to offend visitors.

I'd suggest that you work out what works best for you, and go down that route rather than offer visitors the option of choosing ads. If you are going to offer a choice, how about a "No ads" choice? Now THAT would get some takers :)
