Too saucy for Adsense?

What other options are there?

I have designed a site which I think might be too spicy to be accepted by Adsense. It's not pornographic as such but more of a quirky literary nature containing some references to sexual topics.
I think most people will find it fascinating and eyeopening. It involves lots of famous people - mostly no longer with us.
If refused by Adsense, what other opportunities are there for making money out of the site? Amazon will be ideal but I ain't going to get rich from them.
Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Well, I'm assuming it isn't chock-full of stop words and thoroughly obscene.
In which case, you can 'hide' the odd word from the google parser by using the span tag
as in 'this is a ru<span>de</span> word'.
Of course, if there are two many objectionable words to do that...

Hi scruffy. It's not so much rude words as rude activities. As long as they are not down as swear words, will they escape the Google eye?
To be honest, I though a Google employee cast their eyes over the site. Is it just some sort of spider that visits?

It's worth asking Google to check it out, they might offer contructive advise.

I was kind-of assuming that this isn't an offensive site. I don't think Google are puritanical, so I would expect it to pass muster from an actual person. If not, well...
As far as humanly checking each Adwords site - I doubt it's practical and the google Adsense scan system plainly works in real-time - I get different results instantly by changing a word here and there, even on sites I just constructed and that can't possibly have been scanned.
Whch is odd, 'cos the first time I set up a site I had PSA's for weeks. Maybe you get a personal moral health status ranking somewhere in the database?

If it gets rejected by Adsense, are there any other similar schemes that might be useful to the site?
Forgive but what's a PSA?

PSA - Public Service Ad - No pay space fillers 'Support the Battersea Donkey Sanctuary' etc.

If Adsense reject it? That would make it suspect in anyone's book. Maybe I might too. ;-)

No experience elswhere to suggest alternatives.

It's all a matter of degree. I have a few pages on my site about Amsterdam's Red Light District and drug scene, for example, but Google happily serves ads on those pages (though not always relevant ads). Why? Because there's obviously a difference between a site that mentions sex and drugs and one that's specifically about sex and drugs. (If Google banned every site that mentioned sex or drugs, it wouldn't be able to run AdSense ads on most daily newspapers' Web sites.)

Ditto for booze, guns, and other topics that are given the no-no in the AdSense TOS. There's an obvious difference between an article on shotguns in the outdoor section of the PODUNK PRESS-CHRONICLE and a site called assault-weapons-advocate.com, or a site devoted to moonshining and a review of single-malt whiskies on a site devoted to the epicurean lifestyle.

Just use common sense, and if you still aren't sure, ask AdSense Support before you apply for an account.

Since you seem to have valid concerns, I would definitely ask first. Putting AdSense on a dodgy site and crossing your fingers or, worse, trying to put one over on Google, is not the way to go.

Not too sure that Google sees it this way. One (in hundreds) of my pages (on a travel site) mentions that there are beaches where you don't need to wear clothes. Really harmless stuff....PSA only...sigh!

Well, I get ads on a page about sex and prostitution in Amsterdam. (When I checked this morning, it was getting one ad for Amsterdam hotels and another for Hawaii.)

My theory is.... If a TV show was made out of your content. Ask yourself if it could be played on early prime time(8pm) tv on United States NETWORK television.
If it would play on the Boob tube, contact Google directly and see if there is anything they can do. I would assume that they have lines of Code that they may give you rights to use that will bypass the stop words.

Thanks for the input. It's not a "dodgy" site but the material could be construed in parts to be "after the watershed". I will get adsense support to have a look before I apply.

You might try some of the other CPM based ad networks.

like fastclick, tribalfusion, etc. Places that don't serve contextual based ads.
