Broad matching bad for AdSense too?

Not just bad for AdWords.

Ever since broad matching came solidly into play with AdWords, I've experienced a 40% decrease in CTR and consequently revenues too.

I used to get 4 wonderfully targeted ads, now I get 2 and 2 that are related, but at least one to two topical steps away.

I'd love it if AdSense would allow us to have filters for the ads that get displayed on our pages, like the way AdWords customers have filters for what search keywords their ads should match.

I'm going to try URL filtering but I'm betting that there's going to be too many to filter.

How about you?

thx

It really isn't the fault of AdSense but actually of the advertisers who want their ads for "Striped Purple and Pink Underwater Widgets" to appear when someone searches for "widgets", "striped" or "underwater". Because your page might discuss things underwater, Google isn't aware that when it serves you the highest paying "underwater" ad, that visitors to your site have absolutely no interest in the striped purple and pink underwater widgets.

Perhaps filters will be implemented in the future, where publishers can specify negative keywords for certain keywords they don't want to have appearing on their sites.

Welcome to the club. I've commented about this extensively beginning about a week after broad matching was implemented in mid-October. Google's official word is that broad matching does not effect AdSense. I don't buy that one bit.

Kamangar [Salar Kamangar, a director of product management at Google] said that the recent changes did not affect AdSense.

I agree completely. Broad matching has expanded the number of terms that an Adwords ad is shown for. This includes Adwords "Targeted Content" ad positions which ARE Google Adsense ads. Saying that one does not effect the other is clearly not true.
