Hi,
I have adsense account for a web directory. A few weeks ago the ads were super targeted for different categories of the site. However recently most of the ads relate to the general theme of the site and not to the specific categories. I thought this was a temporary thing but now it seems to be the norm. Does anyone else have a simmilar experience? Is there a way to help google understand the theme of each page?

[webmasterworld.com...] Message #54.

I went back and forth at length with Google on this in late October/early November. If you sticky me, I'll send you the text of the final email they sent me, but the bottom line is there's nothing they can do about it, which is very hard to accept when there was no problem with targeting at all prior to mid-October.

I believe there are problems with the Mediapartners bot:

Normally, when you upload a new page with the Adsense code on it, and you visit that page, the Mediapartners bot will come to your site within minutes in order to determine appropriate ads for that page.

Last week, I uploaded more than 100 new pages but the Mediapartners bot has not visited these pages yet, so I have untargeted ads for these pages.

Maybe you can try it out for yourself: upload a new page, visit that page and watch your server logs. If the Mediapartners bot doesn't come to that page, it means there is something wrong.

I have not had a single problem with any of my new pages showing targeted ads, and they have been spidered by the mediabot.

Are you sure mediabot hasn't visited? Could there be another reason why you are getting PSAs? And don't forget, each page must be viewed in a browser, for mediabot to realize it is there to be targeted. It doesn't follow links as a regular googlebot does.

I don't think they are getting PSAs, Jenstar. I'm not. We're getting mistargeted paying ads.

Earlier today, I uploaded a dozen new pages, I visited each of these pages at least 3 times, but no trace of Mediapartners in my log files yet.

I have mediabot on my site right now, so the bots are out and crawling.

I log the Mediapartners bots and the Googlebots in separate log files, so I can always see when they come and which pages they visited.

The last 60 minutes, Mediapartners visited my site 8 times, but NOT the new pages (the Googlebots are constantly crawling my site since about a week).
