How does one begin to play the adsense game?

I apologize in advance if this seems like a dumb question, but I want to LEARN as much as I can from all of you who are successful. Individuals are selling adsense ready sites, complete with content. Being a NEWBIE, I dont want to get sucked into a bad deal. Is this a good way to start, building one site at a time?

IMO, the best way to start is to create a site of value without adsense as the focus.

Put the users as the focus and make something they will find useful, want to share, talk to people about, feel a part of.

Then you have a useful site that is bound to generate traffic, which you can then monetize any number of ways (including adsense, affiliate programs, direct company sponsorships, etc)

Buying an "adsense ready website" is a shortcut that is going to most likely make more money for the person selling the "ready to go" website rather than the buyer. Without knowing for certain the origins of the "adsense ready website" content, you could also be putting your adsense account at risk

Save your money and make a site that people want to go to. Then add the advertising.
