Suddenly increased CTR to 200% Should I inform Google about this?

What could be the reasons other than competitor?

We have a pretty good content site that earns $$$$, and the click through rate is normally among the best, suddenly yesterday and today I am getting 100% more click throughs, that is if I usually get 18% click thorugh now getting 35% to 45% quite unbelieveable but cpm and earnings remains more or less same. A month back some one exactly grabed our site and hosted online and tried to make money with adsense we brought them down by sending dmca. Will this person be the cause? If so will I be punished. If any other reasons Kindly let me know.

There might be a rational explanation for this, a click dump say, or the addition of some new ads to the stock that attract high CTRs. If it's back to normal tomorrow, it'll probably be the dump; if it stays high it'll probably be ads.

There's no harm in emailing support and flagging your concern, particularly about the dmca. If it is retaliation, however, I'd have thought it would most likely be from one IP, so the clicks would be trapped and discounted before they hit your stats.

Thanks for your comments, anyway I will send a mail to google, meanwhile I read a similar thread that says 50% up in ctr and 50% in cpm, no change in earnings I wonder if this has a corelation with mine. Anyone else noticed this trend for saturday and sunday?

But I just cant believe that every one out of two or three clicking the ad. Since I get only arround 15 to 20% ctr.

It might not be. If it is a click dump, then it's simply a quirk of google's method of working (they may hold clicks back for whatever reason, then 'dump' them on your account at a later time or date).

If it is a sudden increase in user activity, whether it is "unusual" depends on the volumes you have. You can test this statistically using 'standard deviation' - see my explanation of how to calculate your 'normal range' at [webmasterworld.com...]

Hello Guys... i was readin this post as I was trying to figure out what is happening.

My site CTR was standing a whopping 7.2%. Thats right 7.2% . I was making a whopping 4 $ a day with combined adsense and adsearch.

<snip>

the site is pretty good content and so forth and I have worked damn hard to get the ratings up and the content fuller.

Now i recieved a mail from google to say that invalid clicks have been generated.

And no I do not click my own links... in fact my hosts file is sets google ads to 127.0.0.1

I mailed google but as per normal I guess I wont get a reply... this sucks...

My site made a whopping $65 $ a month...

It sucks man
