This has continued through to last night with every record of mine being broken not just once but several times with an average of 25% increase in impressions, earnings and even the CTR average up by 8%. That one really surprised me.
Does anyone have any figures which may suggest this is a general World/European/USA business trend?
Have you seen similar figures? This one is for the non-Xmas traders!
My historical Adsense also shows a strong and steady growth through to June time.
As a matter of commercial interest my historical business records, going back nearly 200 years but much more evident over the past 30 years, show a very similar trait.
21_blue, you have loads of data...tell all:-))
Makes sense for my niche--January is often my heaviest traffic month, as people are spurred by the New Year to pursue their dreams.
That's normal behavior for my travel-planning site, presumably since people are starting to think about their spring and smmer travel plans. I've been experiencing an annual New Year's leap in traffic and revenues every year since the 1990s.
This year does look even better than usual so far, though--not just in terms of AdSense revenues, but also in terms of affiliate bookings and raw traffic. I'm already seeing the kind of activity that I'd expect to see in late spring or early summer. I don't know why that's happening; I just hope it lasts.
If I didn't know better, I'd say Google and Yahoo changed something that resulted in an increase in traffic (mainly Google), but I know the next update is probably not until early Feb. (at the earliest).
just to make this clear: I've seen a huge increase in Google traffic, which dragged my AdSense and Chitika revenue up (especially AdSense).

Ah, if I could "tell all" then I'd be sitting behind a desk raking the money in.
Hold on a second...
..I am sitting behind a desk raking it in.
Ah well.
I'm not heading for a record month (probably second highest). My data suggests that, apart from holidays, there has been a steady growth in traffic since September 2005. I suspect Jagger has had a role to play in directing more Google traffic to original content sites.
It does seem that the average CPC ratio has increased since after Christmas. All in all January is fairing well and lines up with last years ratios.
traffic: 2x
clicks: 3.7x
income: 2x
I panicked and started this thread:

After restoring the ads, I still see a very good trend, so maybe my fears were not justified...
I don't think it's just adsense, but business overall.
I would agree with that too.
Our bricks and motars "start" for the year has been exceptional which is very surprising since many of the projects we deal with are 2/3/4/5 years in length, therefore one would think that in the overall business cycle that the time of the year has nothing to do with it however this year the enquiry and order levels have been at an unprecedented rate.
I hope that's not a cliff edge I can see in the distance...
My site is somewhat consumer focused, so I'm assuming that people spent all their money in December and this is normal. I saw something similar last year.
I expect things to start picking up next month.
You can't generalize with adsense. It obviously makes a huge difference whether your site is about Xmas Trees or Bathing Suits when it comes to seasonal earnings.
I consider eCPM the most valid number to use when making comparisons from month to month or--more important--to other revenue sources such as display ads and affiliate sales.
I half agree with you. Or I agree with half of what you say: eCPM is the most valid number for comparing revenue sources. When comparing month to month, however, eCPM can be misleading. If site stickiness increases, for example, eCPM will drop but earnings could rise. Imho, the best number for making month-by-month comparisons is earnings per visitor.
I say EPV, EFV :-)
Imho, the best number for making month-by-month comparisons is earnings per visitor.
Publishers (I use that word in its traditional meaning, not as AdSense uses it) normally use CPM as a metric. I assume that e-commerce sites use revenue per visitor. Different smokes for different folks, as they say at P. Lorillard.
Counting the number of visitors is always iffy unless you limit access to registered users or those who accept cookies. (IMHO, it's one thing to quote what amounts to a ballpark number for promotional purposes, but using that number to measure revenues is a different matter altogether.)
Jan 21st is showing much lower earnings than usual for the same traffic
I'm not seeing that, in fact I am seeing a very strong eCPM and EPC however traffic levels are down for me as usual for a weekend. Once I get past the 50% daily earnings of Monday to Friday I'm smiling:-)
Surprisingly Friday had my best EPC of the week which resulted in an excellent day.
One thing I am beginning to notice for my niche is that the retail suppliers are at long last realising that Joe Public does a lot of surf/research (surfearch/resurf?) on a weekend and they're gearing up for special weekend offers.
Well, in Europe they seem to!
Anyone else seen this?
