And would you mind telling me if you will be searching online about cooking recipes or books if you are preparing a meal for your family.
You could add some sections with information on topics that have a lot of advertisers. Maybe reviews of the best cookware or something like that. You could also figure out what many of these keywords are and see if they can legitimately be integrated into your content.
The key to remember is that you want to get ads showing up that your audience will be interested in. They do not have to be for exactly what your site is about such as "recipe".
CPC and the others are right, while searching under recipes even "low-fat recipes" gets only 3 adword ads. Other related terms such as "frying pan" gives you ten ads. One never knows what the MediaPartners Bot in his "infinite wisdom" will decide is the best fit, so the only answer is to try it and see.
Regarding your second question, I hardly ever cook, but I have been known to search the net for the one or two times a year that I *try* let me emphasize *try* to cook.
can you control what content shows up in there?
Yes. You can ad sites to a filter in the control panel if you do not want ads from them to appear. You may want to find as many competitors as you can that are using adwords by searching in Google for related terms. Then you can block them before they even show up on your site.
