I have a website with funny photos. Some are adult content...but nothing really extreme. No pornography or anything like that, but some have adult language, some might be making fun of others(but is that really discrimination against others?)

I don't want to get banned from adsense. I've read their terms and i'm sure i can email them and ask questions but i dont think they have time to go through each picture and tell me if its ok or not.

So for those that have been around adsense for a long time now and know whats good and what isnt can you guys help me a little?

Out of lets say 1400 images i might have 200 that might have captions on them with words like F@%k, $hit, a$$. Some pictures are really funny but others might find it offensive. ex(pic of a handicap person running in the special olympics, picture of an african american with captions saying the 'N' word). None of them are pointed directly at anyone or making fun of anyone. They're just regular public domain photos you might run across the internet.

But is google going to ban me because of those images? I see hundreds of sites that have them with adsense. What do you guys think?

I have asked this question of Google regarding photographs of genitalia in a medical context - their answer was "Decide yourself" in a nutshell.

If you are not certain, maybe don't show ads on pages you think might be against the TOS.

I think what we think is not important. What Googlers think is more important. Why don't you ask them and let us know?

I wonder what kind of ads will appear for those keywords you mentioned. Ads from KKK's site?

You're not going to make a lot of money from AdSense with a site like that, so no big loss if you don't use AdSense.

Here's my take and I've emailed google about something similar - gambling. I do pro and college football picks and include a disclaimer saying the lines are for comparison purposes, but I do sometimes mention that a team may or may not cover a line, etc. I also use words like bookmaker, oddsmakers, vegas, and they don't seem to mind. In fact, I get ads in Adwords for football picks.

So, they are fairly liberal, in my mind. As for the three words you mentioned, the first two would be no-no's but the last - heck, you hear that on TV all the time now.

Why not use the characters you used here, instead of the actual words? I think you'd do OK with that, but, don't trust me, ask Google yourself. They're pretty reasonable.

"picture of an african american with captions saying the 'N' word"

I'm white, but I can say that however funny the picture may be, whenever you use the N word you are going to offend a lot of people.

I would think bad language will get you in more trouble than photos.

And for that 'N' word I think judging from Hollywood movies I have seen (I am not an American and I can't remember specifically which movies), you have to be an African American in order to utter that word. If you are not then you are considered a racist.

So, are you an African American?

Mistra, you got it wrong. Just because a Hollywood movie said so doesn't mean it is correct. N is just considered an offensive word. Heck, even eBay does not allow you to use it unless the product uses it (e.g. early 1900s postcard with caption mentioning the N word)

Thanks for correcting me. I never been to America. I would like to make enough money from Adsense to visit Googleplex.

I've never been to the US either, but rest assured that Googleplex is NOT on my list of places to visit when / if I ever do.

We are thinking of going to Vegas for a wedding vows renewal ceremony with Elvis-a-like paid for by As earnings, but not thinking of inviting Google :)

When you are there, please let me know whether my favorite singer Celine Dion is still performing in Vegas. I would like to have enough money to see and listen to her in person. I heard she is quitting or they are not renewing her contract or something like that.

Sidebar for David: consider going to Maui instead; the money you save from the Casinos in Vegas should cover the added expense to get to Hawaii. Got married there 2 years ago and I highly recommend it!

Take lots of pictures, make a new site, post some comments with the pictures, and throw up some AdSense. Then Google can pay for your renewal twice! :)

Oops. I forgot you said you were making $75/day in another thread. I was responding as if you had a new site.

Still, as you said, your eCPM is pretty low. You are doing as well as you do because you have a ton of traffic.

I guess you've looked at other options, such as banners or direct advertising, and they just don't pay as well as AdSense, with all its flaws.

The separate sections solution sounds like a good one, by the way.

Good luck!

I personally wouldn't risk it -- if you get banned, it may be permanent. And you may want to put adsense on a different site in the future.

And yeah, the "N" word is very offensive. I can't think of any context on a humor site where it wouldn't be. Certain groups may find the site funny, but it's STILL an offensive term by American standards -- and Google is an American company. (And IMHO, a "liberal" American -- and Google appears to have a VERY liberal corporate culture from everything I've read -- is even MORE likely to be offended by that word than a conservative.)

I changed it. I have a clean version with adsense and adult mature version with other advertisers.

AdSense TOS are site wide and not based per page or section.

*Excessive profanity
*Violence, racial intolerance, or advocate against any individual, group, or organization
*Hacking/cracking content
*Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia
*Pornography, adult, or mature content
*Gambling or casino-related content
*Excessive advertising
*Any other content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others...

That's one of the deliberate vaguenesses of the TOS.

Google have suggested to me (after asking), and others, not to run ads on certain pages that have borderline content. But it does clearly say the SITE cannot contain the items listed above. Thus it's a good idea to ask if anything anywhere on the site crosses the line.
