Just in general -- are we talking $.03 cent clicks or more?

I basically grew up travelling -- camping, hiking, road trips, etc. I'm also a (imho) very good photographer; I have the knowledge and equipment to produce professional-caliber photos.

Thinking of doing an "scenic road trips" web site, with detailed maps, photographs, and insider information on little-travelled but scenic routes.

Overhead would be high, though -- to do a report on a 3-4 day road trip (camping) would be around a few hundred per trip. And I'd want to drive the route before writing the article as things change ... So to break even, I'd need to MAKE a few hundred on each article.

I'd have fun doing it, but I'm trying to get a sense if travel in general is a "low paying" category or a "high paying" category, or what. :)

Well one thing you should consider is how many hits are you actually going to get on your site. It's easy to create a website. The hard part is marketing it. If you have a great plan on how to promote that site then go for it. I'm sure there are thousands of people out there that would like to see photos from around the world before they visit.
