How much traffic before using adsense

As you can see, I'm new here but from what I'll I've read, it seems you should first build your site and its traffic before thinking about ads. My question is how much traffic have you had before you implemented adsense or some other ad service?

Why should you have traffic before putting the ads up? I just put them in from the beginning.

I don't think there is a, "magic" number before you should implement Adsense into your website.

You should focus on content first (make your site great); implement Adsense, or other ad programs; drive traffic to it.

As long as your site has valid content that is approved by Google and does not go against Google's TOS. As for me, I been running many web sites for many years but waited for more than one year before applying out of fear of rejection and also due to my busy schedule in the past that made me forgot to apply.

So if you wanted to apply, make sure you have valid content and try to design your site more professionally to impress Googlers.

If your site doesn't have much traffic (<100 uniques) on a daily basis, there isn't much point in putting advertisements. But if your site is say a highly specialized niche that attracts a loyal following, then you may make money right from the start regardless of how much traffic you're pulling in. As Google advises, try it, it doesn't cost you anything, and you may be pleasantly surprised, I was.

In my case, the site existed long before adsense did and was getting good traffic. However, I have been pleased with the performance on a new blog I've started that complements my main site. The ads were on it from day 1.

My site was up well before Adsense. It is currently making a fair bit more than it first did and that is not due to any change in traffic as traffic can vary for me. For me it is more to do with optimsation techniques such as ad format choice, ad color choice, positioning, tuning page content and weeding out spammy advertisments.

I don't find that what necessarily works for one page will work for another either, you need to experiment with combos. Try using the Google heat map for positioning and make your own adjustments from there.

The key factor I have found is to get the ads on target and make them complement the content both visually and in their content. So it may be possible for you to start earning with lower traffic until you build up a presence.

I politely disagree.

If your traffic is targeted and your adense ads the same... income could be greater than you think. I have a site that does around $10 a day that has 12 pages, with an average of less than 50 visitors a day.

All it may take is a few clicks.

If you have a sense that your site will only make a tiny amount of money, then your time is better spent trying to get more traffic than sticking ads on the side.

Why? I can't see why you can't do both. I agree with bobothecat I've just created three small sites each with less than 30 pages. At times they do better than my 5000+ page site. It's all about getting targeted traffic and ads. If you can i.e. site is within the TOS, then I say by all means put AdSense up.

Since there is the possibility, that an account is closed because inactive, I would say to start when there is a chance to make at last $10 per month.

When the theme should normal convert with at last 1 Cent per visitor, this would be to start with about 1000 visitors per month.

A very simple reason would be link building.
How many of you noticed that getting incoming links becomes much harder after you start displaying ads? I did, and as you well know any new site will desperately need good inbound links as much as a baby needs good nourishment.
So from experience, I'd wait 6 months to a year before putting ads.
